Weekend Certification Classes

Scuba Diver I

The Scuba Diver I course is a beginning scuba diver course that takes two weekends to complete.  The cost is $500 per person plus a 6% WV sales tax with no hidden fees.  This course will train a beginner to properly use snorkel and scuba equipment.  The student will learn about diving physics, the gas laws, buoyancy, diving maladies and first aid, scuba equipment use, and how to use dive tables and a dive computer.  A written exam will be given at the end of this course.  A score of 80% or above is required to pass this course.  After the student completes all pool work and academic work with an 80% or higher score on a written exam, they will tehn do a series of 5-6 open water dives on Summersville Lake.  After all course requirements are completed, each graduate will receive either a NAUI or a SDI Scuba Diver I certification card which is recognized internationally.  This certification certifies the graduate to scuba dive to a depth of 60 feet.

Advanced Scuba Diver

The Advanced Scuba Diver course takes one weekend to complete.  Participants must already be certified scuba divers.  The cost for this course is $400 per person plus a 6% WV sales tax.  Each participant will be required to do a night dive, to do several deep dives below 50 feet, to master underwater navigation using a compass, and to use a lift bag to raise an object from the lake bottom.  This course will also go deeper into diving physics, diving maladies, first aid, and the diving environment.  Each student will be required to have a knife, primary U/W diving light and a compass which can be purchased from Sarge's Dive Shop.  The students will be in a classroom setting for the academic portion of the course and on Summersville Lake for the required 5-6 open water dives.  A written exam will be given at the end of this course.  A score of 80% or above is required to pass this course.

ERDI I "Public Safety Diver"
(Emergency Response Diving International)

This first level Emergency Response Diving Course is designed to give the certified open water diver, or open water certified public safety diver, the fundamental skills needed to safely function as part of an OSHA and NFPA compliant public safety dive team in both the diver and tender roles.  Each ERDI Public Safety Dive course has an "awareness level", an "operations level", and a "technicians level."  ERDI I & ERDI II courses are Homeland Security endorsed.

This course takes two weekends to complete and cost $600 per person.  You must be an advanced diver or above, 18 years old or older, have at least 40 or more logged dives and be certified in CPR1st and CPROx or equivalent.

In this course you will learn how to setup a public safety dive team, do underwater search & recovery techniques, dive tendering, learn the legal aspects of public safety diving, and conduct open water public safety diving exercises on Summersville Lake.  Each participant will be required to do search & recovery training in a pool environment, classroom academic lectures, and then open water training dives during the second weekend along with a written exam.  A score of 80% or above is required to pass this course.

ERDI II "Public Safety Diver"

The ERDI II course requires that each student already be certified as an ERDI I "Public Safety Diver."  The ERDI II course cost $600 per person and requires advanced registration so we can make arrangements to get each student a DUI drysuit for classroom and open water diving.  This course takes two weekends to complete.  In this course each student will be trained in drysuit diving and full-facemask diving with wireless and hardwire U/W communications equipment.  Departments with 5 to 9 students will receive a $20 discount per person and 10+ students will get a $30 per person discount.  EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies can combine or unite agencies to qualify for the above discounts.

Sarge's Dive Shop also offers other courses including ERDI Swift Water Technician Ops, ERDI Automobile Subsurface Extraction Ops, ERDI U/W Crime Scene Ops, ERDI Surface Ice Rescue Ops, ERDI Contaminated Water Ops and NAUI Scuba Rescue.

Sarge's Dive Shop now offers "Law Enforcement Training Credits" (LET credits) for our dive classes.  After completing one of our classes, we will notify the LET office so you can receive the credits.

We are now offering fall & winter scuba classes at the Beckley, WV   YMCA.  Call Danny Martin @ 304-228-6790 to signup.

If your department cannot take classes on weekends, call Mark to discuss running classes during the weekdays.  304-880-0451
